IBUPROFEN

Ibuprofen is an NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug) that non-selectively inhibits Cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme and is used to treat pain, fever and inflammation. It is indicated in a number of conditions like dental pain, headache, dysmenorrhea, rheumatoid arthritis among others. It blocks prostaglandin synthesis which are mediators of pain, fever and inflammation. Take 1 capsule thrice daily with food so as to avoid stomach irritation. Avoid alcohol. It is contraindicated in pregnancy. Use with caution in liver/kidney disease and in patients on blood thinners since it increases risk of stomach bleeding. Common side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
