SALBUTAMOL

Salbutamol is a short acting bronchodilator (4 to 6 hours) used in reversible airway obstruction due to asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. For the relief of acute bronchospasm, the recommended dosage for adults is 100 or 200mcg and in children is 100mcg. For the prevention of allergen or exercise-induced bronchospasm, the recommended dosage in adults is 200mcg before exertion and in children is 100mcg before exertion. In patients who are on chronic therapy, they can take up to 200mcg 4 times daily. Ventolin is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components. Ventolin should be administered cautiously to patients with thyrotoxicosis. Avoid with propranolol.
